Prayagraj: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Wednesday carried out raids at six locations in UP, including residence and office of mafia don Ateeq Ahmad, presently lodged in Ahmedabad Jail.
Searches were conducted in connection with assault of Mohit Jaiswal, a businessman, in Deoria jail when Ahmed was lodged there. The businessman was called and assaulted by the former Samajwadi Party MP, his son Umar Ahmed and their men.
According to officials, the CBI will question Ahmed and his son in connection with the case.
The CBI searched Ahmed’s residential and office quarters here and also the premises of Farooq and Zaki Ahmed, named in the CBI FIR and are aides of the jailed ex-parliamentarian.
According to CBI sources, the agency also carried out raids at two locations in Lucknow, including that of Nitesh Mishra, a chartered accountant, and Pawan Kumar Singh, a staff member of Ahmed, and seized several documents.
The CBI team has also been visiting hotels, frequented by the Ateeq Ahmed gang members, to gather information.
