CBI to probe RTI activist’s murder

Mumbai, March 24: Home Minister R.R. Patil at the Legislative Council on Tuesday announced the state’s intention to handover the murder case of Right to Information (RTI) activist Satish Shetty’s case to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

Shetty, who exposed many land scams in Maharashtra, was killed by unidentified men while taking a morning walk at Talegaon, on the outskirts of Pune, on January 13. “The state police have already arrested six people who were involved in the crime.

However his family has written to me saying they are not happy with the investigation and the court has also asked us to initiate a higher inquiry and go for advanced probe like brain mapping tests,” said Patil.

After Shetty’s murder and attack on other activists, including Nayana Kathpalia of Citispace, the state decided to induct such activists into the local police public coordination committee to address local issues.
