Assam Relief Co-Ordination Committee has demanded that the Union government order a CBI inquiry into Assam riots. Speaking to mediapersons here on Sunday, Committee organizer Mohd Shahnawaz Khan demanded that the Centre arrest culprits behind the riots and dispense justice to the riot victims.
He also urged the Centre to release adequate funds for rehabilitation and set up more medical camps to provide medical assistance to the victims.
Khan said that the committee visited the riot-hit areas of Assam and found some 34 boys and three girls lost their parents in the carnage. Besides, 2,000 people were yet to be found.
He lamented that no FIR was registered so far. He said that the Centre had washed of its hands by announcing Rs 300 crores which were utilized in the entire Northern region. The situation in the relief camps was worse with lack of medicines and other basic amenities. Stating that there are some 8,000 children below two years and 4,000 pregnant women, he said only 110 doctors have been posted there by the government. Committee convener Ilyas Shamsi has alleged that Union Minister P. Chidambaram had inspected only two torched houses of Bodo people and ignored the plight of five lakh Muslim victims
