CBI officer sent to jail

The Special Judge for CBI cases, Tis Hazari Courts, New Delhi has sentenced O.P.Sharma, formrt Deputy Inspector General of CBI to undergo a year”s rigorous imprisonment with a fine of Rs.50,000 each under Sections 7 and 13(2) r/w 13(1)(d) of the PC Act, 1988 in connection with a bribery case.

A case was registered by the CBI on a complaint against Sharma on June 16,1991. It was alleged that Sharma had demanded a bribe of Rs.10 lakh for not implicating two private persons (who were brothers) in a TADA case.

Sharma was the supervisory officer of a FERA case against one private person and others in which searches were conducted at the residential and official premises of the two private persons.

During the interrogation, both brothers were allegedly threatened by Sharma for involving them under TADA in the said case.

The CBI laid a trap and Sharma was caught red handed while demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs.10 lakh from the complainant at his official residence at R.K. Puram, New Delhi on June 16,1991.

After a thorough investigation, the CBI filed a charge sheet in the Court of Special Judge, CBI cases, Tis Hazari Courts, Delhi on September 9,1992.

The trial court found the accused guilty and convicted him.(ANI)
