CBI may probe TTD missing jewels

Hyderabad, August 07: The State Government has reportedly decided to hand over the much publicised case of the alleged disappearance of ancient jewellery of Lord Venakteswara to the CBI.

Sources said the decision was taken to set at rest wild speculations surrounding the missing jewels. The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD), which manages the jewellery of the Balaji temple, has of late been rocked by several controversies, but the missing jewels hogged the headlines for obvious reasons.

Several reports had claimed that among the missing jewels were some donated by Srikrishna Devaraya, the famous Vijayanagara emperor of the 15th century. Srikrishna Devaraya visited Tirumala seven times during his life time and donated something or the other on each of those visits. Inscriptions on the temple walls bear testimony to this. However, there are no records of his donations.
