The CID police have produced businessman K Venka Reddy, who was arrested in connection with the leakage of the call data record of the CBI Joint Director V V Lakshmi Narayana in the court here on Thursday. He was remanded to judicial custody till August 6.
Venka Reddy is the vice-president of Ind Bharat Energies of Maharashtra. Suspecting his involvement, CID police arrested him on Wednesday. CID Additional DG Ramana Murty has stated that Venka Reddy and some others had obtained the call data of the CBI JD through illegitimate means.
Venka Reddy is a close associate of Raghu Rama Raju, prime accused in the call data leak case. CID police said that he had admitted to have obtained the CDR with the help of a friend, who was now absconding. Police also said that apart from committing the crime, Venka Reddy had also tried to cover it up.
CID officials said that Venka Reddy had complained to the Maharashtra police that he was receiving threatening calls from a particular number. He did not inform the police that the number belonged to the CBI JD. Then, he had approached Hanumantha Rao, BSNL Deputy Director, with a copy of the police complaint and some other false documents. It was through him that he got the CDR. When police tried to locate Hanumantha Rao, he has also become untraceable.
It is now being suspected that Venka Reddy also had links with YSR Congress chief Y S Jaganmohan Reddy. Jagan had reportedly helped him in getting bank loans. (NSS)
