CBI Custody of Janardhana Reddy extended till Mar 16

The CBI court today extended the custody of mining baron and former Karnataka minister G Janardhana Reddy till March 16. Earlier, the same court had extended the CBI custody of Reddy’s close associate Mehfuz Alikhan, by four days. Both the cases were adjourned to March 16. The Former Karnataka Minister is charged with involvement in illegal mining both in Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. Additional Civil and Sessions Court Judge B M Angadi remanded Reddy to four more day’s of CBI custody, after the investigating agency produced him in the court today. The CBI court was shifted to Parappana Agrahara court hall on the outskirts of the city after violence broke out in the city civil court complex when Mr Reddy was first produced before it on March two. The former minister was brought to the city from Chanchalaguda prison by the CBI, where he has been lodged along with his brother-in-law B V Srinivas Reddy are lodged since September five last year. He was arrested by the CBI in the illegal mining case involving Andhra Pradesh-based Obulapuram Mining Company.

Meanwhile, Karnataka High court, which is hearing the criminal petition filed by Reddy seeking quashing of the CBI probe against him in Karnataka, today ordered issue of notices to CBI and asked the investigation agency to file its objections on the matter.
