CBI branded as Congress agent

Hyderabad, August 02: Terming the CBI as a Congress Bureau of Investigation and Congress Bureau of Intimidation, the former national BJP president said that the Congress party was using the CBI as a tool to harass its political opponents and to topple elected governments.

He also accused the Centre of misusing the CBI to demoralize the Gujarat police by arresting 15 IPS officers. Hitting out at the Congress for talking about Mr Narendra Modi linking him with the Sohrabuddin Case, Mr Naidu asked the UPA government whether it doesn’t have confidence in the Gujarat police or was it the national policy?

The BJP leader asked as to why the Centre failed to inquire into the links of Sohrabuddin with Andhra Pradesh? He pointed out that the Gujarat Home Minister Amit Shah was taken into custody without conducting any inquiry on the same day the CBI gave a clean chit to the former Union minister, Mr Jagdeesh Tytler in the case of Sikh riots in 1984. He also alleged that the CBI was planting stories against the Opposition parties, particularly against the BJP.

Pointing out to the CBI former director, Mr Joginder Singh’s statement that the CBI was trying to shield the culprits who deserved imprisonment, Mr Venkaiah Naidu said that the Congress party was disturbing the federal system and injuring the Centre-State relationships.

Expressing surprise over the arrest of Gujarat Home Minister Amit Shah, he asked, “have any one heard about cases filed against Home Ministers about encounters in Andhra Pradesh? Did the CBI file any case against the Andhra Pradesh Home minister for the recent police encounter of Maoist spokesperson Azad?”

Alleging that the Congress party was playing Sohrabuddin case to garner votes, Mr Naidu felt that it would boomerang on the Congress which would pay a heavy price for omissions and commissions. He asked the CBI as to why it was not acting in the same spirit in the cases of Afzal Guru, Lumbini and Gokul Chat bomb blasts.
