Hyderabad, March 06: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered a case against unknown officials of the Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS), Hyderabad and some leading corporate hospitals in Hyderabad for causing wrongful loss of about Rs 12.20 lakh to CGHS and corresponding wrongful gain to private hospitals.
According to a CBI press release, it was alleged that the unknown officials on the screening committee of CGHS conspired with corporate hospitals — one in Nampally and the other at Banjara Hills — and showed undue favour in processing the bills of hospitals.
‘‘The competent authority has sanctioned medical claims against these fake and forged bills submitted by the private hospitals in respect of some patients for treating and implanting stunts,’’ the release said.
It further stated that the accused officials had caused wrongful loss to CGHS to the tune of Rs 12.20 lakh.
The officials of CGHS, Hyderabad processed the fake and forged bills without the outer pouch, which contains the batch, date of manufacture, bar code among other details submitted by private hospitals, which is required as per rules.
The accused officials also violated the rules laid down by CGHS while processing and sanctioning the claims. ’’The Nampally based hospital implanted one cordynamic stunt on a patient but falsely claimed bills for two stunts on the same patient.
The accused showed undue favour to this hospital and processed the claim for two stunts,’’ the release added.
It is learnt that the CBI has already seized certain documents from these hospitals and further investigation is on.
