New Delhi: CBI has arrested a Social Security Officer of Employees State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) in Maharashtra for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 25,000 from a person in return for not imposing penalty on his firm.
CBI said a case was registered against Social Security Officer, Employees State Insurance Corporation (ESIC), Satara (Maharashtra), under provisions of anti corruption law on a complaint alleging that the Social Security Officer of ESIC posted at Satara (Maharashtra) demanded bribe of Rs 30,000 from a person for not imposing penalty of Rs three lakh on his firm.
The fine was to be imposed under ESIC Rules in connection with employing more than 10 employees since the year 2010.
CBI spokesperson said after negotiation, the accused reduced the bribe to Rs 25,000.
“CBI laid a trap and the Social Security Officer, ESIC was caught red handed along with a private person at Satara, while demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 25,000 from the complainant. Searches were conducted at the official & residential premises of both the arrested persons at Satara and Pune,” she said.
