CBI arrests one for forging service tax challans

New Delhi, July 15: CBI has arrested a man for causing Rs 6.4 crore loss to the state exchequer by allegedly producing bogus service tax payment challans to Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC).

Amrit Pal Singh was today produced before Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Kaveri Baweja who remanded him to police custody till July 17.

Singh, who used to run two companies — M/s Shivaali Industries Pvt Ltd and M/s International Avenues — was arrested by CBI sleuths.

According to the probe agency, Singh submitted bogus service tax payment challans to the tune of Rs 6.4 crore to DTC, which were found to be forged.

CBI had registered an FIR on November 30 last year on a complaint by the Commissioner Service Tax, New Delhi.

Singh was alleged to be involved in service tax frauds through his two companies.
