CBI to appoint more lawyers in Maharashtra

Mumbai, April 09: With the Centre sanctioning more CBI courts in Maharashtra, the investigating agency has called for applications from young lawyers to fight over 400 pending cases for it on contract basis.

“The need for additional lawyers, who would work as prosecutors, arose after the Centre sanctioned additional courts in the state for speedy disposal of a backlog of cases,” CBI’s chief prosecutor Ejaz Khan told PTI.

The criteria for appointment is that the lawyer should have minimum seven years experience.

Six special courts that will hear only CBI cases were set up in the state – three in Mumbai and one each in Amravati, Pune and Nagpur.

“At present we have five prosecutors. With the setting up of six additional courts, we need more prosecutors,” Khan said.

The law officers will be thoroughly training on the functioning of CBI, he added.
