Lucknow, November 19: CB-CID will now be handling the probe against lawyers allegedly having criminal background, a senior official said today.
“On the request of DGP headquarter, the state government has ordered CB-CID probe in over two dozen criminal cases registered against lawyers in the city”, Secretary Home Deepak Kumar told PTI.
The special investigation cell (SIC) of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has already lodged 11 FIRs against lawyers allegedly having criminal background.
The move came in the light of directives from the Allahabad High Court’s Lucknow bench, which had asked the CBI and state police to identify lawyers with criminal background and probe their source of income.
CBI and state agency CB-CID will be probing cases wherein lawyers had been accused of heinous crimes like murder and attempted murder.
