Cauvery issue: TN hopes Centre forms CMB in stipulated time

Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister E Palaniswani on Wednesday expressed hope that the Centre will set up the Cauvery Management Board (CMB) in the promised time.

“The Supreme Court has given a verdict for the formation of the (CMB) in six weeks time and there is still time left,” said the minister.

He added, “I believe that Centre will take appropriate steps to implement the judgement of SC and will form the board in interest of the Tamil Nadu farmers.”

The apex court on February 16 ordered the central government to set up the CMB and the Cauvery Water Regulatory Committee within six weeks.

However, the apex court’s verdict decreased Tamil Nadu’s share in the water body, much to the dismay of the people of the state.

Palaniswami had expressed dissent over the Cauvery Water verdict, saying that the Supreme Court order reducing the allotment of water for the state from Cauvery River was ‘disappointing.’ (ANI)
