Caught, runaway couple commit suicide

Lucknow, Dec 14: A couple that had eloped from Gaur Kala village of Hardoi a week ago committed suicide on Sunday morning when the police and the girl’s family tracked them.

The couple committed suicide by consuming poison.

The police and the girl’s parents learnt that Kishore (38) and Gudia (20), who had been reported missing since December 8, had been spotted at Sandila railway station.

“The girl’s parents reached there first. They were about to take the girl to their house when the police reached the spot. Our team was bringing the couple to the police station when their condition started deteriorating. They were taken to the primary health centre where doctors declared them dead on arrival. We don’t know when the couple consumed poison,” said Hardoi SP O P Sagar.

At the Primary Health Centre in Bhasawan, Dr Deepak Maurya said: “When the couple was brought to the centre, both the police and the girl’s parents were with them. I cannot say what they had consumed. The postmortem report will clear the matter.” Gudia was a student of Shajade Singh Mahavidhyalaya in Hardoi while Kishore was unemployed.

“On December 8, my daughter did not return from college. I inquired from her friends, but they did not know anything. In the evening, when my son Rahul informed that he had seen Gudia going with Kishore on his motorcycle in the afternoon, I went to Kishore’s house but he was not there,” said Vinay Kumar Trivedi, Gudiya’s father, while adding that he lodged an FIR against Kishore for kidnapping.

“When we got information that the couple had been seen at the railway station, I sent two constables. When they reached there, the girl’s parents were already there. No suicide note has been recovered. The postmortem report is still awaited,” said Station Officer of Atrauli B K Pandey.

While the girl’s body was handed over to her family, Kishore’s body was claimed by one of his sisters-in-law who came from Balia on being informed by neighbours.
