Caught in Maoists crossfire, student dies

Shilda (WB), February 16: The daring Maoist assault on the Shilda Eastern Fronter Rifles camp ended the “bright career” of an undergraduate student who was on his way to home from Jhargram and was killed in the crossfire.

Gurudas Hansda, a BA (second year) student of Shilda college, was returning to his home in Bankura district from Jhargram when the bus on the roof of which he was travellng was intercepted by the marauding Maoists.

He had nowhere to escape as the Maoists opened fire. He fell down from the bus and was taken to the Belpahari Primary Health Centre where he died of his head injuries, his father Sahebram Hansda said outside the Jhargram sub-divisional hospital where the body was shifted for a post-mortem.
