Caught on Cam: Dubai teen crushed Indians to death

Dubai, December 26: Two Indian men crossing the road in Warqa area in Dubai were crushed to death by a car driven by a 16-year-old boy without licence at a high speed, press reports said on Monday.

A film shot by security cameras installed by the Roads and Transport Authority showed the boy was driving at an extremely high speed when he knocked the two over and caused parts of his car to scatter in the place.

Eye witnesses said the two victims were ripped apart by the impact as the driver fled the scene just after the accident on Friday morning.

But a few hours later, police managed to seize the boy at home in Dubai and found the affected car hidden inside the house. The boy told police the car belongs to his elder brother, who said its key was stolen by his brother.

“The boy was referred to the prosecution at the traffic department on charges of causing deaths, fleeing the accident scene and driving without a licence. His brother was also referred to the prosecution for allowing his young brother to drive his car without a licence,” said Brigadier Khalil Al Mansoori, director of Dubai’s criminal investigation department.

Quoted by ‘Al Ittihad’ newspaper, police said residents of the area told them that they had seen that boy driving his car at high speed many times.
