Hyderabad, February 05: As if installing statues of Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy was not enough, temples are now being constructed in memory of the former Andhra Pradesh chief minister in the state.
Backed by YSR Congress party president Y. S. Jaganmohan Reddy, one such temple is coming up at Rajagopalapuram village in Visakhapatnam district. Named Rajasekhara Reddy Alayam ( Rajasekhara Reddy temple), it is being constructed by local YSR Congress party leaders.
Though the temple is still under construction, the idol of YSR has already been installed and will be formally inaugurated by Jaganmohan on Saturday, when he passes through the village during his tour in the district.
“ There is no better occasion to get the temple formally inaugurated as Jaganmohan is coming here after a long gap. We are all great fans of YSR and hence, we have decided to construct the temple of our beloved
leader. We have collected ` 4 lakh from the villagers in the form of donations for the temple’s construction,” local leader Govind Reddy said.
Interestingly, though YSR was a devout Christian, the rituals would be performed according to Hindu customs.
“ It will be like any other Hindu temple. We will appoint a priest who will perform the puja s according to Hindu customs. People will also be able to worship YSR’s idol,” Govind said.
