Cash, gold stolen from trader’s house

New Delhi, June 04: A 48-year-old Noida businessman was on Wednesday night overpowered inside his home by four men who took away cash and jewellery worth Rs 4 lakh.

Rajesh Gupta, an automobile dealer who lives in Sector 12, claimed he was alone in his house, when the incident happened. “I received a phone call asking if I was at home. After 15 minutes, two men entered my home as I had kept the door open due to the heat. Two more men followed them soon after,” said Gupta.

“When I refused to tell them about the cash and jewellery, they took me inside my bedroom and beat me up. They tied me and threw me inside the bathroom. Soon, I heard them leave the house. I kept banging at the door. The latch of the door came loose and I got out. Soon after, I informed the police about the incident,” he said.

However, the police are not entirely convinced. “Gupta had a fight with his wife five years ago and the couple have since been living separately. He does not pay anything for his wife’s maintenance. We think it is a simple case of loot, but are still investigating all angles,” said a senior police officer.
