Cash awards for RTC drivers

Hyderabad, January 04: The 22nd Road Safety Week celebrations kicked off at all bus depots of the Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) from January 1. The programme is aimed at creating awareness about road safety among employees and passengers in RTC.

In a press release here, G V Ramana Rao, executive director (ED), HRD and Medicals, APSRTC, stated that meetings on road safety will be held for drivers, supervisors, conductors and other staff during the week-long programme. Senior officers of police department, judiciary will also participate and speak on several areas related to road safety, he said.

The corporation, he said, would put up banners, flexis, hoardings and circulate pamphlets on road safety at major junctions to educate passengers on transport rules and regulations. Drivers with an accident-free record in every depot will be awarded on the occasion, he said, adding that Rs 12,000, Rs 10,000 and Rs 8,000 would be given to drivers bagging first, second and third prizes in the state-level.

Those securing first to fifth prizes in zonal-level will be given cash of Rs. 4,500, Rs 4,250, Rs 4,000, Rs 3,750 and Rs 3,500 respectively while those bagging prizes in region-level will get cash awards of Rs 3,250, Rs 3,000, Rs 2,750, Rs 2,500 and Rs 2,250.

Minister for transport Botsa Satyanarayana and APSRTC chairman M Satyanarayana will present the awards to drivers at Kalabhavan, Musheerabad, in the city on Jan 5.
