Cases to be lifted against Telangana agitators

Hyderabad, September 25: The Andhra Pradesh government has decided to withdraw 790 cases booked against 3567 agitators specially students, during separate Telangana and united Andhra movements.

However the cases booked against those who damaged the public and private property will not be lifted. The decision will be formally announced within a week.

Opposition parties as well as Congress have been pressing Chief Minister and Union Home Minister P Chidambaram to withdraw all cases against agitators, on which Chief Minister had directed home minister P Sabita Reddy and former home minister K Jana Reddy to review the matter and submit report.

Home minister P Sabita Reddy called state DGP Mr. K Aruna Rao and reviewed state wise cases filed against agitators and consulted legal department regarding withdrawal of cases.

The government has prepared a proposal to withdraw cases booked against 3597 students and agitators however private cases are considered to be kept as they were.

There is a strong possibility that legal opinion will be obtained within four days.
