Cases against students will be lifted: Sabita

Hyderabad, January 25: Home Minister Sabita Indra Reddy has said that 657 cases filed against students during the Telangana agitation were being withdrawn as assured by the government in the Assembly.

Sabita and Law Minister Erasu Pratap Reddy held a meeting with police top-brass this morning and discussed the matter.

Speaking to the media later, Sabita said some cases would be withdrawn and 133 cases were being referred for legal advice. She said that a total of 790 cases would be withdrawn by the end of this month. She also assured that GOs on the withdrawal would be issued soon. She explained that delay was for ensuring that there would be no legal problems, once the cases were withdrawn. She said the government was presently considering cases up to the fast of MLAs. She has assured that withdrawal of cases registered during the Sakala Janula Samme would be considered later.

The Home Minister has assured that students would not have any kind of problem because of the cases for writing competitive examinations. She said that some 5,000 students would be getting relief because of the government’s decision to withdraw the cases. She said the government has given this assurance in the Assembly and was now fulfilling this. She has explained that there were some legal problems in withdrawing cases where government and private properties were damaged. She said the government would make efforts to lift cases as far as possible.

On the Amalapuram incidents where statues of Dr Ambedkar were desecrated, the Home Minister said that the government would get report by this evening and then respond.
