Case registered against couple

About a week after she was forced to deliver a baby on the roadside in the wake of government hospital staff turning her away, a case has been registered against the woman and her husband by police on a complaint from the duty doctor.

The woman duty doctor today lodged a complaint that the Andhra-based couple did not allow her to work and verbally
abused her, police said, adding, cases were registered under IPC sections including 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty).

The couple yesterday left for their native place in Andhra Pradesh.

The woman had complained to the hospital dean that one of the staff demanded a bribe of Rs 1000 to attend to her and
when she could not pay up turned her out.The woman delivered a baby boy on the roadside on Sunday last and following public outcry she was admitted to the same hospital.

District Collector K Maharabushanam visited the hospital and suspended a woman sanitary worker who had allegedly
demanded the bribe.
