A case was filed tonight against Telugu actor-producer M Mohan Babu and three others for allegedly insulting the Brahmin community in his latest movie ‘Denikaina Ready’. However, Mohan Babu asserted there was nothing in the movie that insulted Brahmins or any other community. Following a court directive, Malkajgiri police filed the case against Mohan Babu, his actor son Manchu Vishnu and comedy actor Brahmanandam, who star in the movie, besides its director G Nageswar Reddy, on charges of criminal conspiracy and promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion and other relevant sections of the IPC, a senior police officer said. Members of a Brahmin association had filed a petition before a local court against Mohan Babu and others accusing them of allegedly insulting Brahmin culture and hurting their sentiments. After hearing their petition the court had directed the police to investigate and register a case. Yesterday, different Brahmin associations held a demonstration in front of the actor’s house in Film Nagar over alleged derogatory portrayal of their community and demanded a ban on his son’s film. The protesters alleged that priests belonging to the Brahmin community were shown in poor light in the film and demanded a ban on the movie as well as an apology from Mohan Babu. PTI
