Case of abatement of suicide against 3 GEER officials

Ahmedabad, April 14: Three officials of the Gujarat Ecological and Education Research (GEER) Foundation, including its director, were today booked on charges of abatement of suicide in connection with the death of a Range Forest Officer (RFO) posted there.

The body of A C Chauhan was found from Narmada canal on the Sarkhej-Gandhinagar Highway yesterday, police said.

According to the police, Chauhan’s father Chandansinh today filed an FIR against the director of GEER Foundation and two district forest officer (DFO) rank officers posted there stating that his son had committed suicide after mental harassment by the officials of GEER Foundation.

Based on Chandansinh’s complaint, a case under section 306 (abatement of suicide) and 120B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered and further investigation in the matter was on, the police said.

GEER Foundation is an autonomous body under the state forest and environment ministry.
