Carrier auto mows down 6-yr-old girl

Mumbai, December 04: A six-year-old schoolgirl was killed in an accident at Sion on Tuesday. The victim, identified as Payal Ramshiromani Kori, stayed in Rahul Gandhi Nagar, Old Agra Road, Dharavi.

Sub-inspector Ashok Raskar of the Sion police station said the girl, a Std I student of Jogalekarwadi municipal school at Sion, met with the accident around 11.25 am while she was going to school with children who lived in the neighbourhood.

The accident took place when a speeding three-wheeler (MH-03-N-4700) knocked her down while she was crossing a road near her school.

She sustained head injuries and was bleeding from both the ears. She was rushed to the Sion Hospital in an unconscious state by the parents of her classmates. But she was declared dead before admission.

“Police rushed to the spot and nabbed Kannu Ramzan Dhunia, 32, the driver of the vehicle. He was booked under sections 279 (rash driving), 338 (causing grievous hut by act endangering life) and 304 (a) — causing death by negligence,” Raskar said.

The driver has been remanded in judicial custody for 10 days.
