Care should be taken to report Ganesh festival

(Siasat News) Commissioner of Information and Public Relations, Mr. R.V. Chandravadan, IAS, exchanged views with the mediamen about reporting of Ganesh festival. He told them that media plays an important role in peaceful celebrations of festivals. It is, therefore necessary to be very careful while reporting on such occasions. Media should be impartial in reporting these events. Any such news item which incites people for violence should be avoided. He especially pointed our that past references which can create communal tension should be avoided. It might create confusion. He also said that sensational news items should not be telecast again and again. He appealed to T.V. channels and newspapers to maintain balance and ensure truthfulness and genuineness of the news item. For the publication of any sensitive news, permission should be obtained from the highest editorial authority. He requested them not to speculate and not to indulge in arguments unnecessarily. He appealed to the media to follow these guidelines and not to give any chance to Govt. to review their news item in cases of violations.
