The ‘Car-Free-Thursday’ initiative launched in Hyderabad by IT community to encourage IT/ITeS sector employees to use public transport, carpools, cycles and walk to work has celebrates completion of one year.
To mark the occasion, a function was organized which was attended by Mayor of Hyderabad Bonthu Rammohan, president HYSEA Ranga Pothula, MD, Progressive Software and Immediate Past President of HYSEA Ramesh Loganathan, Prashanth Bachu , Urban Transport Expert, WRI India, Murali Bollu of Zen Q and others. A document on Way forward on the Initiative was unveiled on the occasion. The Mayor also unveiled a new poster to mark the first anniversary of Car Free Thursday.
Speaking on the occasion, Mayor Bonthu Rammohan said the GHMC would soon launch a Public Bicycle Sharing Facility in Hitech City area. Under the scheme, commuters will be able to take cycles on rent from a residential area and travel to the nearest place, he said, adding this will be a pilot project and it will be taken up from Hitech City area.
Children from Jain Heritage School read out messages collected as part of “One Lakh Hands”. The services of IT Parks, Volunteers who played a key role were recognized and felicitated.
Launched on August 6 last year, the initiative was spearheaded by HYSEA, TSRTC, & TSIIC in association with Cyberabad Security Council (SCSC), CyKul, RideIT, WRIIndia(previously EMBARQ), IdentCity, ACT Carpool, Commut, Ascendas, Zify, ITFAN & H2O Cab, Extent IT solutions, Sride, Polaris, Raasta Studios and other IT companies.
