In our culture it is considered very bad to speak ill of a person who is not around to defend himself AND to speak lies about that person or his actions is nothing short of being shameless and arrogant.The statement that ” the last Nizam FORCED Patel to order Police Action” is wrong.
There was a Standstill agreement in force and the case was in the UN when unilateral action was taken by the Government Of India against the advice of the then Chief Of Army Staff General Sir Francis Robert Roy Bucher(1.1.1948-15.1.1949) and Hyderabad annexed by force.
Hyderabad did not MERGE ..It was the magnanimity of the last Ruler of the great Asaf Jahi Dynasty HEH Nawab Sir Mir Osman Ali Khan,Asaf Jah VII,Nizam of Hyderabad to order a surrender of his forces ..he saved his city and its people from plunder, loot,destruction and disgrace.Like I have stated in one of my earlier posts the forces who fought shoulder to shoulder in WW I and WW II, as part of the British Indian Army were forced to become adversaries.Once again I state that many of us who were young boys and girls in 1948 would have got killed…the city would have been destroyed.
It is surprising that the current Home Minister in the Central Government is so ill informed or is he purposely distorting history of what actually conspired before the Invasion of Hyderabad wrongly called Police Action.It was a full fledged military operation of advancing to contact and christened OPERATION POLO with troops under command of a Major General and supported by the Indian Air Force.This force occupied Hyderabad and the State had a Military Governor till such time a popular government was installed.
I found it quiet ironic and sly to organize the ‘run for unity’ in Hyderabad.The fact is that the first Home Minister of Independent India was a Congress man called Valab bhai Patel.Now he is being idolized by the Bharatiya Janata Party.WHY? Is it because he is a Gujrathi or is it because of his known leaning towards ideals which were not secular?
Then again a Congress Prime Minister of the country who was a known sympathizer of the Sangh Parivar and an Osmanian to boot belonging to the the composite Ganga-Jamuni TEHZEEB of Hyderabad chose to remain silent till such time a mosque was torn down in North India is also appreciated by the BJP.
All said and done these governments will not be able to bring back the glory that was Hyderabad, the BARKAT of the Osmania Sicca even if they rule till planet earth turns into a red hot ball of fire,cools down and once again evolves???…

I thought we only had unconcerned writers who make dogs sit on Muslim rulers thrones and spin tales of fictitious love affairs of Kings and nobility going down all the way to name cities after women supposed to exist 400 +years ago.We now have to also deal with responsible ministers making irresponsible statements.
