New Delhi, April 16: The capital continued to be in the grip of searing heat today with the mercury shooting upto 42.9 degree Celsius, the highest on this date in the last five years.
The Met office said that there was no respite in sight from the heat with the mercury likely to touch 44 degree Celsius tomorrow.
Today’s maximum of 42.9 degrees was six degrees above normal while the minimum of 23.5 degree was four notches above the normal temperature for this time of the year.
The maximum temperature yesterday was 42.3 degree Celsius, which was also six degrees above normal while the minimum was recorded at 23.6 degrees.
The humidity levels were, however, low in the city at a maximum of 46 per cent and low of 17 per cent.
Last year, the maximum temperature in April had touched 43.5 degrees which was the second highest in the last 65 years.
