Candlelit Massive Rally in NY to mark the decade of Gujarat Carnage

Members of Coalition Against Genocide, a broad-based coalition formed to obtain justice for the victims of 2002 pogroms in India, welcomed the introduction of a resolution in the United states House of Representatives by Congressman Keith Ellison, marking the 10th anniversary of Gujarat pogroms.

“We will be requesting all the members of the House of Representatives to support the resolution,” said Dr.Shaik Ubaid, one of the founders ImanNet as well as Coalition Against Genocide. The coalition will be meeting later today to formally welcome the resolution. Hindutva extremists have been working hard to infiltrate the power centers of the US and the resolution will also help in increasing awareness about the violent supremacist ideology of Hindutva according to Dr. Ubaid

In the Gujarat pogrom more than 2000 Muslims were killed and burnt alive and more than 500 women were gang raped and then killed brutally. More than 150, 000 were displaced from their homes.

The Coalition is holding a candlelight vigil on Saturday, March 3, 2012, at Union Square Park in New York City, to mark the tenth anniversary of of the anti-Muslim pogrom in Gujarat, India, and to highlight the continued suffering of the 2002 victims.

“We thank congressman Ellison,” said Saeed Patel, a successful New Jersey buisenessman from Gujarat. Patel, who is one of the leaders of the Coalition Against Genocide further said, “Ten years after the brutal rapes, and vicious murders of thousands of innocent Muslim civilians, most of the perpetrators openly walk the streets of India, making a mockery of India’s justice system. Narendra Modi, the Chief Minister of Gujarat, who allowed the anti-Muslim violence to continue unabated for several days, and who has destroyed crucial government records, in an attempt to cover-up his misdeeds, has yet to be prosecuted for his crimes against humanity,” said Patel..

Dr. Ubaid reiterated, “Coalition Against Genocide was instrumental in getting the diplomatic visa to the US revoked, thereby derailing his campaign to become the BJP candidate for India’s Prime minister. We will continue our struggle till all the victims are compensated and all the perpetrators are brought to justice.”

Dr Shaik Ubaid, one of the the founding coordinators of Coalition Against Genocide has informed that the stage is all set for the candle light vigil in New York to mark the 10th anniversary of Gujarat genocide. Many American leaders will join the Indian American leaders to condemn the Gujarat government and to demand Modi;s arrest and trial for crimes against humanity. The alliance to fight Huindutva-fascism is expanding in the US according to Dr. Ubaid who also heads the New York chapter of Muslim Peace Coalition USA.
