Cancer: Vaccine that can eliminate tumours may soon become reality, human trials begin

California: Cancer vaccine that can attack tumours all over the body may soon to become reality. Human trials of the vaccine to begin.

According to the report published in DC, a team of scientists at Stanford University told that one injection of vaccine into one tumour will act on all the tumours spread in the body. This vaccine triggers the immune system to fight Cancer.

After testing on mice, the test will be done on lymphoma patients. They are recruiting such patients.

Talking on this, Lead Author and Professor of Oncology, Mr. Ronald Levy, MD told that the vaccine uses two agents.

Researchers also claimed that the vaccine is cost effective as very low doses of two agents are used and unlikely to cause severe side effects.

This vaccine activates the immune system to fight cancer. It not only kills the tumour at the site of injection but also spread all over the body to destroy any other tumours in the body.

Commenting on the vaccine, Dr Levy, whose lab developed Rituximab, a form of chemotherapy, said that it could help in handling different types of cancer.

According to the report published in New Atlas, talking about the experimental results, the team told that the vaccine worked successfully on 87 of the 90 mice treated.

It may be mentioned that cancer can be treated using chemotherapy, radiotherapy, surgical removal and immunotherapy. This vaccine works on an immune system of the human being.

It may be noted that even without a vaccine, the immune system initially tried to get rid of Cancer but fails to do so. The new vaccine solves this problem.
