Cancel posts of Parl secretaries: HC tells Govt

In what is called a major ‘blow’ to Telangana Government, the High Court today directed it to cancel immediately the Parliamentary Secretaries’ posts appointed some time ago.
Perusing separate petitions filed by Congress MP Gutha Sukhender Reddy and Telugu Desam MLA Revanth Reddy against the appointment of Parliamentary Secretaries by the TRS government, the court observed that the appointment is totally against the norms. The Court asked the State Government to cancel these posts as they cannot be considered constitutional.
The petitioners challenged the government’s action in appointing parliamentary secretaries in the court and appealed it to quash the posts which are extra-constitutional. With this, the six MLAs, who were elevated as parliamentary secretaries will lose their posts. Those, who will lose their posts and attached to departments include Srinivas Goud (Revenue), V Sathish Kumar (Education), G Kishore Kumar (Health), K Lakshmi (Agriculture), Jalagam Venkat Rao and Vinay Bhasker (CMO).
The State government had appointed them as parliamentary secretaries with deputy minister status. The court also asked the government not to resort to such appointments without its permission. (NSS)
