In this technique, it involves the addition, insertion or removal of DNA at a specific site in the genome of an organism.

• Eradication of diseases
• Targeted gene modification in plants such as to produce pest-resistant, drought resistant plants
• Gene therapy
• Correction of disease causing mutations
