Campuses to be made more safe for women: Pallam Raju

University Campuses and Colleges should be made more safe for women and girl students. Dr. M. M. Pallam Raju, Union Minister, HRD has given this advice to the Vice-Chancellors. He was interacting informally with them at Maulana Azad National Urdu University today. Dr. Pallam Raju, laid the foundation stone of the H. K. Sherwani Centre for Deccan Studies at MANUU and addressed a select gathering. He also suggested to the Heads of the Central Universities to make a forum and have regular interaction with each other and interface with the industry.

Earlier addressing the gathering Dr. Raju described Urdu language as the integral part of India which has practically ruled the country over a period of time. We need to rediscover the richness of the sweet language. Urdu is a not confined to any particular section of society.

Appreciating MANUU’s spectacular pace of development he expressed hoped that newly established Centre for Deccan Studies will become a centre of excellence in research and academics. Accessibility doesn’t mean compromise with quality. Quality is the thrust area of 12th Five Year plan. Education System shall synchronized with the national ambitions. Inclusive education is the need of the hour. While referring to Sachchar Committee findings Union Minister remarked, the Literacy Rate among Muslims is much below than the National Ratio. He advised MANUU to prepare bilingual teachers and start a department of Telugu. While speaking about the importance of Innovation and Research he said heavy investment is required in these areas to make India a Super power. We should discourage the commercialization of education.

Prof. Ved Prakash, Chairman University Grants Commission in his speech remarked that survival is dependent up on our research and innovation. Inclusive approach is required to make the country progress. He said UGC is ready to provide help to MANUU.

Prof. Mohammad Miyan in his address agreed to setup Telugu Department at MANUU. He made a power point presentation about the University. Prof. S. M. Rahmatullah, Registrar I/c, welcomed and introduced guests. Dr. Salma Ahmed Farooqui, Director Centre also spoke. The meeting started with the recitation of the Quranic verses by Prof. Abdul Moiz. Prof. Mohd. Zafaruddin conducted the proceedings and proposed vote of thanks. Prof. Faizan Mustafa, Prof. P. Prakash, Prof. Sunaina Singh, Mr. Jagdish Mittal, Ms. Anuradha Naik, Mr. Khaleeq ur Rahman and dignitaries from the city were present in the meeting.
