Campus turns tense; students, police hit each other

Once again, the Osmania University campus turned tense on Monday with students hurling stones at police personnel and the latter dispersing them by swinging their lathis.
When the OU Students and Unemployed JAC called for “Chalo Assembly” on Monday following Telangana government’s announcement that services of contract employees would be regularized, the police tightened security by deploying huge force. The police also diverted vehicular traffic from the OU campus in view of the untoward incidents
When the students took out Chalo Assembly rally raising slogans against the KCR government, the police closed the gates on the campus. With this, the students turned restless and resorted to violence. The striking students said they thought their lives would be better with jobs in the Telangana State. But the TRS government, in spite of its promises, was denying jobs to students who made sacrifices for the separate State and decided to regularize services of the contract employees, they lamented.
The OU students were demanding that the government set up Telangana State Public Service Commission and release notifications for job recruitments. (NSS)
