Campaigning for third phase ends today in UP

Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh), Feb. 17 (ANI): The campaigning for the third phase of Uttar Pradesh assembly elections will come to an end at 5 p.m. today.

69 constituencies spread over 12 districts including Lucknow, Etawah, Kanpur, Barabanki, Auraiya, Mainpuri and Sitapur will go to polls in this phase on Sunday.

Top leaders of various political parties including Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Amit Shah, Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan and his Uttar Pradesh counterpart Akhilesh Yadav will address rallies in different parts of Uttar Pradesh today to woo the voters.

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra will join her brother Rahul in the Gandhi stronghold of Raebareli today.

Congress leader Akhilesh Singh’s daughter Aditi Singh is contesting from this seat in the upcoming polls.

Earlier on Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed public meetings at Barabanki and Hardoi and lashed out at the Samajwadi Government for the deteriorating law and order situation in Uttar Pradesh.

Addressing a rally in Mainpuri, Akhilesh questioned the Prime Minister about the black money collected post demonetisation.

Scrutiny of nominations will be held today for the seventh and final phase.

40 seats of the 403-member Uttar Pradesh Assembly will go to polls in the final phase on March 8.
