Islamabad, April 06: British Prime Minister David Cameron said here on Tuesday that without a request from Pakistan his government would be unable to do anything to execute the arrest warrant issued by a Pakistani court against former president Pervez Musharraf.
The issue was raised by a reporter who asked Mr Cameron at a press conference if his government had declined to extradite the former president after the non-bailable arrest warrant was served on him last month in connection with his alleged role in the assassination of former prime minister Benazir Bhutto.
Mr Cameron said: “We don’t have an extradition treaty between Britain and Pakistan. We would look into any warrants that are produced. There has to be a formal application (filed) in a proper way.”
The warrant was issued by an anti-terrorism court in Rawalpindi at the request of the Federal Investigation Agency for General Musharraf’s alleged failure as president to provide adequate security to Ms Bhutto resulting in her assassination in a gun-and-bomb attack outside Rawalpindi’s Liaquat Bagh on Dec 27, 2007.
