As a part of the city’s hi-tech supervision system, the Hyderabad police came forward with mounted cameras on patrolling SUVs. The cameras can record crimes and also record police actions which can be used in court as evidence said Police Commissioner Mahender Reddy.
On Saturday, a test run was held, wherein two police vehicles mounted with cameras watched the Sriram Navami processions in the city. The city police will be using cameras that can not only record events occurring in front of the vehicle but also record events in 360 degrees area all around the patrol car.
According to sources police Commissionerate in Basheerbagh will monitor live all the streets that are videotaped. In addition to the mounted camera on top of the vehicle, a dashboard camera will also be installed to cover the interior of the vehicle in order to monitor the actions of police officers. In two months, the cameras will be installed on 300 SUVs, said a police officer.
