Call to fight against pollution

Hyderabad, June 06: To stimulate awareness among people on environment and public action for environmental protection, the state government is all set to introduce various schemes in near future,’ Minister for Forests, Environment, Science and Technology P Ramachandra Reddy said.

He was the chief guest at the World Environment Day celebrations, which was held at Jubilee Hall, Public Garden here today.

Addressing the gathering, Ramachandra Reddy called upon all NonGovernment Organisations (NGOs), scientists and general public to fight against pollution, which causes environmental disorder in the world.

Highlighting the current year theme of World Environment Day celebrations, many species, One Planet, One future, he said the threat of global warming, humaninduced climate change, tapering of the ozone layer and the impact of chemical pollution and deforestation would impact on the contemporary society.

“The state government has planted more than 46 lakh saplings in 94 Assembly constituencies with an aim to save environment. Recently, the forest and environment department convened a meeting with all higher officials and decised to plant saplings at all government and private institutions like schools, hospitals, farm lands, parks and other government lands with the involvement of the common man,” Ramachandra Reddy said.

He also disclosed that the state government is planning to supply Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) for domestic purpose and usage of motor vehicles as well to prevent pollution. The CNG would be supplied with the assistance of Bhagyanagar Gas Company.

Giving the welcome address, K Madhusudhana Rao, Member secretary, Andhra Pradesh Pollution Board (APPCB) said that several programmes have been organised across the State to create awareness about environmental disasters and how to control them.

“Combating climate change and preserving ecosystems services that strengthen our economies is an issue for everyone. Every individual’s efforts, no matter how small, can contribute to the sustainable development of our economies and communities around the world,” he added.

Later, Ramachandra Reddy presented awards to various industries and hospitals for their outstanding performance in controlling pollution.

MP Aziz Pasha, Nampally MLA Virasat Rasool Khan and others participated.
