Call centre employee hangs herself in hostel

Hyderabad, July 22: A CALL centre employee, who hailed from Jharkhand, hanged herself to death in a women’s hostel at SR Nagar here late last night. Police, however, could not ascertain the reason for the suicide as her family members are yet to arrive in the city.

According to the police, Mohini Sharpa (18) was working at a call centre at Begumpet and moved into the Shobha Women’s Hostel at SR Nagar just ten days ago. She was sharing a room with four other women in the hostel.

Yesterday morning, when all her roommates left for their respective workplaces, Mohini remained alone in the room. When the others returned in the night and found the room bolted from inside. With their repeated knocks falling on deaf ears, the hostel management called the police. Police forced open the door and found Mohini hanging from the ceiling fan. She did not leave any suicide note behind.

“The reasons for the girl’s suicide could not be ascertained. She had no close relatives living in the city and she did not provide her family details to the hostel either,’’ SR Nagar police sub-inspector V Bhaskar Rao said.

From the calls registered on her mobile phone, police came to know that she was working at a call centre in the Begumpet area. They traced a distant relative of her at Hakimpet but they could not provide any clues.

Mohini, it is learnt, was in touch with a CISF constable who helped her get accommodation in the hostel, and police are questioning him. With the curriculum vitae that Mohini provided to the call centre police are trying to trace her parents.
