Call centre duping US citizens busted in India: Police

NOIDA: Police busted a fake call centre which was being used to deceive US citizens. A call centre located in Sector 63 of Noida was raided late Thursday night on a tip-off that suspicious operations were being carried out from there, senior police officer Ajay Pal Sharma said.

The officer stated that several operators and callers were arrested from the scene and were being questioned.

Saying there were problems with their Social Security Number which consists a nine-digit identification number issued to US citizens by the government, the workers at the fake call centre would call up US citizens and frighten them and demand money to fix it.

As the probe was underway, further details were awaited, said the officer.

Several fake call centres have been busted in Noida over the past few months, and the number of people has been arrested for duping foreigners, including Americans and Canadians, officials said.
