Call for action against colleges fleecing BC students

Hyderabad, June 27: The AP BC Welfare Association demanded that the Government take action against the colleges which were collecting tuition and special fees from the BC students at the time of admission against the Government orders. In a press release issued on Friday, association’s president R Krishnaiah stated that the Government by its order number 18 had stipulated that the colleges should not collect the tuition and special fees from the BC students at the time of admission.

He stated that the Government was reimbursing the fees in two instalments with six months gap and last year it had reimbursed fees of 12 lakh students to the tune of Rs 690 crores. As the Government had introduced the online system for the reimbursement some delay took place, Krishnaiah stated.

But this year there would no delay in paying the fees by the Government as it had allocated about Rs 2,500 crores, he said and added that in July, another 50 percent renewal fee of the students would be paid and the remaining amount would be paid in December.

Under such circumstances there was no need on part of the colleges to collect the tuition and admission fees in a coercive manner, the BC leader stated.

Meanwhile, the Engineering colleges have issued notices to the students of third and fourth years and were watering down the Government’s objective of giving free education, he alleged.
