California hit by 4.7 earthquake

California, October 03: A 4.7-magnitude earthquake hit central California late Friday, the US Government reported.
The epicentre of the tremor, which occurred at 6:09 pm local time on Friday (11:09 AEST), was located 11 kilometres south of the central Californian town of Keeler, according to the US Geological Survey.

There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage.

The reading was based on the open-ended Moment Magnitude scale, now used by US seismologists, which measures the area of the fault that ruptured and the total energy released.
