California fire: Death toll touches 23

Butte County: The death toll in the fast-moving wildfire has risen from 9 to 23 after 14 more sets of remains were discovered on Saturday.

Butte County Sheriff and Coroner Kory Honea told reporters that the victims belonged to the now-burned-down town of Paradise, reported CNN.

The deadly wildfire has wreaked havoc destroying a record number of buildings and displacing as many as 300,000 people.

The fire grew fierce as the state had not witnessed rain in more than a month and dry vegetation worked as fuel.

The White House, late on Friday, in a statement issued emergency in California as the death toll in the fast-moving wildfire went up to nine.

Hollywood stars including Kim Kardashian West, Alyssa Milano, Lady Gaga, Caitlyn Jenner and more were among the thousands of people who were forced to evacuate their homes due to the Woolsey Fire that is ravaging Los Angeles County.

The blaze that started on Thursday night (local time) had pushed towards Malibu and the Pacific Ocean, prompting evacuations in Malibu, Calabasas, Agoura Hills, and other nearby areas.
