Hyderabad, November 18: The Congress Action Committee for Telangana (CACFT) has warned the Seemandhra leaders that they will fight confidently to stop the Polavaram project if the Government tries to construct the project with the present design. The CACFT leaders also asked the Chief Minister Mr K Rosaiah to control the scamsters in the State by rejuvenating his energies.
Speaking at the media point on the Assembly premises on Wednesday, the senior leader Mr Palvai Govardhan Reddy has alleged that the neo-rich Andhra leaders (indirectly referring to Eluru MP Kavuri Sambashiva Rao and others) were influencing the Government and managing at Delhi regarding Polavaram project. He said that the engineers too were listening to contractors like Mr Sambashiva Rao. He pointed out that the contractors were not fulfilling the conditions framed by the Central government and added that the neo-rich class knows very well as how to manage at Delhi level. He exuded confidence that the Polavaram project would not be completed with the present design because the Odisha and Chattisghad States were raising objections on the present design.
Taking serious exception to the Government not examining the retired engineer Mr Hanumantha Rao’s report on Polvaram project present design, Mr Palvai said that even the Kakinada MP Mr Harsha Kumar has appreciated Mr Hanumantha Rao’s report and other MP Mr Kishore Chandradev has expressed unhappiness over the threat of submerge of tribal villages. He stated that Rajahmandry MP Mr Undavalli Arun Kumar has not gone through Mr Hanumantha Rao’s report even though he assured to study the report.
Mr Palvai said that the Seemandhra MPs were not ready to discuss the Polavaram project issue with Telangana leaders. He stated that the Nagarajuna Sagar project storage capacity was 408 TMCFT, Srisailam project storage capacity was 263 TMCFT, but the Polavaram project capacity was meager 75 TMCFT, and asked the Seemandhra leaders as to why they were showing that much interest for meager 75 TMCFT water at the cost of 350 tribal villages (to be submerged in the back waters). Comparatively the Nagarjuna Sagar and Srisailam projects were major projects than Polavaram but the loss that happened was very less, while the loss is very high if the Polavaram project was completed.
He said that Mr Hanumantha Rao has shown alternative design with less loss and the project will be completed within three years and the present Chief Minister Mr K Rosaiah only would get a chance to inaugurate the project. He asked the government as to where be the need to construct the rock fill dam for Polavaram project.
