Cabinet nod for National Water Mission charter

New Delhi, April 06: Stepping up efforts to conserve water, Government today approved a comprehensive charter for the National Water Mission, which is part of its ambitious National Action Plan for Climate Change.

A meeting of the Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, approved the comprehensive mission document of the National Water Mission.

“The objective of National Water Mission is conservation of water, minimizing wastage and ensuring its equitable distribution both across and within the states through integrated water resources development and management,” an official release said.

The mission document was drafted by the ministry of water resources in consultation with state governments, central ministries, non-governmental organisations and academicians, it said.
