Kolkata; Governor of west Bengal Jagdeep Dhunkar had to face the wrath of the students who were protesting against CAA, NPR, NRC.
Governor is also the Chancellor of Kolkata University. He had come to address the convocation. The students declared that they don’t want to receive degrees from the Governor as he is the supporter of CAA and other laws.
As soon as the Governor reached to address convocation, the students exhibited placards on which the slogans, NO CAA and NO NRC were written. The students shouted, “Go back, Governor”. The students told that he is a representative of the BJP Government. In the wake of the strong protest by the students, the Governor could not reach the dais. He preferred to stay in the waiting room where he met the Nobel laureate, Abhijit Banerjee and affixed his signature on the honorary D.litt. the degree to be awarded to Dr. Mukherjee.
Later, the Governor tweeted that taking into consideration the inconvenience caused to Dr. Mukherjee, he is going back from convocation.
In his tweet, he also wrote that to meet Dr. Mukherjee and his mother was a memorable event of him life.
He told that stern action should be taken against those who prevented him from addressing the convocation.
Vice-chancellor of Kolkata University, Sonali Chakranarthi Banerjee made an appeal to the students to maintain peace but they turned down her request.
The students told that they won’t allow the proceedings of the convocation till the Governor leaves the place.
It may be mentioned that the Governor had to face a similar situation in December last year when the student of Jadhavpur University had force him to go back without attending the convocation
