CAA-NRC: Transgender challenges PM Modi

Hyderabad: So far India has witness protest against Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and National Register of Citizens (NRC) from many different groups and communities including students, intellectuals, artists, writers.

The Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender Queer and Intersex (LGBTQI) community people also expressed grave concern about the act.

On February 3, 2020, the LGBTQI community took out a protest march against the draconian CAA-NRC, wherein other women, artists and theatre groups also take part.

“We understand what discrimination is. The Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), the National Register of Citizens are discriminatory in nature and we oppose them,” Bittu, a member of the organising board said. He further added, “ We are a syncretic community in which all the members of the community who join the ‘Hijara Gharana’ practice Islam and Hinduism and so several people change their names during the cross-religious boundary.”

Munawwar Khan, a transman of Hyderabad had challenged PM Modi and ask him to show his proof first. He also said that the transgender community will not accept this law.
