Aisy Dastoor Ko, Subh-e-be-Noor ko, Main Nahi Manta, Main Nahi Janta…
This beautiful poem by Habib Jalib is going viral amidst the ongoing protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act and the National Register of Citizens.
Earlier, Shashi Bhushan Samad, a visually-impaired student from JNU recited the poem in an emotionally charged voice during the protest by students demanding a full rollback of hostel fee hike.
But the recital of the poem has made a comeback to haunt the public against the backdrop of barbaric attack of police against the peacefully demonstrating students of Jamia Millia Islamia.
Samad, a JNUSU councilor participated in the protest march against hostel fee hike was among several students injured by the brutal police force.
The Parliament had passed the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2019 last week and it became an act after receiving assent from President Ram Nath Kovind.
Except Muslims, the Act seeks to grant Indian citizenship to refugees from Hindu, Christian, Sikh, Buddhist and Parsi communities fleeing religious persecution from Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh, and who entered India on or before December 31, 2014.
